American's are cutting back everywhere they can during this time of economic woes, everywhere that is except on their cell phone usage. Offering a cell phone with no long term contract is one way to stay in the game during this time.

According to recent polls, 87% of Americans are changing their spending habits. They aren’t going to the mall for clothes, they aren’t running to Ticketmaster for the next show in town but they are not giving up their cell phones either.

Even when most people are experiencing extreme difficulties in paying for day-to-day expenses such as cable or eating out and most people are definitely not buying the big ticket items anytime soon, the cell phone has become more of a life line than a luxury.

While there will be some people who cut back on their cellular services, most people are searching for options to get around cutting out their cell phones, some are even delaying paying other bills just to make sure the cell phone bill is paid. . For many people, their cell phone has become their communication device, with landlines becoming obsolete.

Flexibility is the Key

Having a cell phone plan without being tied to a contract allows for flexibility, the key factor for many American’s to stay afloat during a tough economy is the ability to be flexible in their spending.

Being able to adjust spending without being charged an enormous fee for doing so is a bonus and a very real marketing tool for companies that offer prepaid and no long term contract cell phones.

Virgin Mobile customers who were surveyed overwhelmingly stated that Virgin Mobile USA saves them money on their cell phone plan. Customers don’t have to be locked into a long term contract and there are tools that allow them to earn minutes on their phones just for watching advertisements.

The survey was conducted online within the United States by Vision Critical via Virgin Mobile USA customer panel of 750 adults. The results of the survey are reliable with a +/- 4 percent margin of error.

This flexibility in contract services goes a long way in getting and keeping customers for Virgin Mobile USA. Currently, more than five million customers are in control of their own cell phone plans rather than being controlled by their cell phone plan.

Virgin Mobile USA and Helio by Virgin Mobile offer both pre-pay and no long term contract plans for consumers to choose from. Both of which allow the consumer more freedom of choice and in the long run allows others financial obligations to be met with the savings from the cell phone bills.

Flexible contracts for consumers is a step all cell phone service providers need to be offering their customers. As the economy continues to remain weak, consumers will continue to seek out more ways of saving. Having a flexible cell phone plan will keep the consumer coming back for more.
