AT&T announced that its Network Disaster Recovery program has reached fruition. After a year-long effort to bring together all the necessary components to insure that wired and wireless communications remain intact during disaster situations.

With an investment of over $500 million dollars in its NDR program and over 150 portable trailers carrying technological equipment that can be deployed on a moment’s notice, AT&T has moved ahead of the pack in preparing for a national or even worldwide disaster that could affect communications.

During hurricanes Ike and Gustav, the NDR was vital in communications, both in maintaining communications during the storm and in restoring communications after the storm. For these two storms AT&T invested over $140 million dollars to restore communications.

AT&T’s Mission

During both day-to-day situations and disaster situations, AT&T’s number one mission is and has been to provide communications to its clients. Maintaining communications is key and when that proves impossible quick restoration is vitally important.

AT&T has made it their commitment to be prepared for almost any emergency situation and to lead the telecommunications industry in NDR preparedness.
AT&T’s NDR team is vital part of their overall disaster response. They are called in to action each year for a variety of reasons, from tornados and floods to wildfires and hurricanes, both in the United States and abroad. These services are looked over by the AT&T Global Network Ops Center which runs 24-hours a day to monitor and maintain its networks.

In addition to the NDR team, AT&T also has a National Security Emergency Preparedness team which works with government branches from the town level all the way up to the Federal level to keep communication readiness efforts planned no matter what the situation may be.

AT&T as a leader in Disaster Response Organization is just another way of showing their customers what has brought them through the telecommunications field from the beginnings of the telephone to wireless communication. This ingenuity is also what will take them in to the next century of communications.
