My Space HIts the Road with the MySpace Blackberry App

My Space has been a huge hit for years and now with the introduction of RIM’s My Space for Blackberry application, members of the My Space community can keep up with their friends’ news and happenings and update their own pages without being tethered to a computer.
It was predictably a huge success. In the first week alone there were over 400,00 downloads of the application and over 15 million messages were sent. Talk about exposure - Blackberry and RIM have to be smiling.
The social networking scene revolves around updating your status – your mood, what you’re doing, who you’re listening to, things of that nature. As more and more people became members of these communities the desire for them to keep in touch increased drastically. And it’s not just the younger generation, who are on the scene, business people see this as a great marketing tool and are signing up.
What It Does
My Space for Blackberry works on a large selection of Blackberry smartphones including the new Blackberry Storm and the popular Blackberry Pearl.
Blackberry and RIM teamed up to create a Blackberry My Space page where users can keep up with the latest news and updates for the application. They can also access videos, games and ringtones from that space.
This new application was modeled after the Facebook for Blackberry application, which has been out over a year and is also very popular.
Once installed on your Blackberry you can access your My Space page from the icons on your phone’s screen. You can go to your home page, see your messages, view your friends list and your photos. In addition you will be able to update your status and mood section, reply to friend requests and add comments to your site.
Launching the BlackBerry's camera to take new pictures no matter where you are then upload them to your MySpace page immediately is the application's best feature by far and the mobile platform's only real additional contribution.
The Blackberry, typically seen as the businessman’s companion has stepped into the now generation with the My Space for Blackberry application. This alone will make it more appealing to the younger generation.
